Gunma University had dispatched a Medical Support Team from the Gunma University Hospital to Kumamoto on April 21st, 2016. The request came from the National Governor's Association to Gunma Prefecture. The team consists of one medical doctor, two nurses, one pharmacist, and two coordinators. One of the coordinators is an official of the Gunma Prefectural Government. This is the first team. Three other teams will follow later from Gunma Prefecture.
As the damage and the situation are not clear at this moment, the professional staff of the Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) was selected as the first delegation. A departure ceremony was held at the Gunma Prefectural Government Building on the morning of April 21st. Mr. Sorimachi, Deputy Governor of Gunma Prefecture spoke to encourage the members of the DMAT. In response, Dr. Tamura, a representative of the team replied, "We will do our best to support the evacuees as much as possible." And they shortly after departed with many people there to bid them farewell.
